Biography, scientific achievements

Scientific specialties: chemistry, organic chemistry

Graduate of the Ufa Oil Institute (1971), Doctor of Chemical Sciences (1989), Professor (1997), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2000). From 1971 to 1990 he worked at the Institute of Chemistry of the Bashkir Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences), since 1990 - Head. Department of Chemistry, Komi Scientific Center, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, from 1995 to 2016. - Director of the Institute of Chemistry, Komi Scientific Center, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Leading specialist in the field of organic and organometallic synthesis, who made a significant contribution to the development of chemistry and technology of organoaluminum compounds. He is one of the pioneers in the wide use of organoaluminum compounds (AOCs) as reagents in fine organic synthesis. He developed new methods for the synthesis of ketones, allenes, allyl alcohols, amines, acids, esters, sulfides and other compounds; AOS-induced rearrangements have been discovered, hydroalumination reagents with unique activity and selectivity have been proposed, and methods for the stereoselective reduction of ketones have been found. The proposed methods have found wide application in the total synthesis of pheromones, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and other low molecular weight bioregulators. Under the leadership of A.V. Kuchin developed the scientific basis for the processing of wood chemistry products to obtain biologically active substances. An original method for the complex processing of woody greens has been proposed, which makes it possible to increase the yield of extractive substances by two to three times compared to known methods. For the first time, the positive effect of low molecular weight components of fir tree greenery on the productivity of farm animals has been shown. A cycle of works has been completed and preparations of growth-stimulating and fungicidal action based on spruce and fir woody greenery have been proposed. Highly efficient methods for purifying sulfate turpentine and extracting polyprenols from sulfate soap have been developed. For the selective oxidation of S, O and N-containing compounds, chlorine dioxide has been proposed and methods for its use have been developed. New methods of asymmetric synthesis have been developed and unique chiral molecules with high physiological activity have been obtained. Pharmacological substances based on terpenophenols have been developed that have a complex effect on hemorheology, vascular platelet hemostasis and antioxidant activity, neuroprotective, retinoprotective activity, as well as affecting cerebral blood flow. In order to create new pharmacologically active derivatives of plant polysaccharides and polymer systems for the transport of low molecular weight pharmacophores, polycationic and polyanionic modifications of linear polysaccharides have been obtained.
