He received the Diploma of Ufa petroleum Institute (1971), doctor of chemical Sciences (1989), Professor (1997), corresponding member of RAS (2000). From 1971 to 1990 he worked at the Institute of chemistry of the Bashkir branch of the USSR (now the Institute of Organic chemistry, Ufa scientific center, Russian Academy of Sciences), from 1990 he head of Department of chemistry, Komi scientific center, Ural branch of RAS, from 1995 to 2016 – Director of the Institute of chemistry, Komi science center URD RAS.
Leading specialist in the field of organic and organometallic synthesis, have made a significant contribution to the development of chemistry and technology of alumoorganic compounds. He is one of the pioneers of the wide use of alumoorganic compounds (AOC) as reagents in fine organic synthesis. He developed new methods of synthesis of ketones, allenes, allylic alcohols, amines, acids, ethers, sulfides and other compounds; discoverd the rearrangements occurring under the action of the AOC, proposed the reagents for hydroalumination reactions with unique activity and selectivity, found the stereoselective methods for the ketones reduction. The proposed methods have found wide application in the complete synthesis of pheromones, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and other low-molecular bioregulators. Under the leadership of A. V. Kutchin the scientific bases of processing of wood chemistry products for the biologically-active substances obtaining was developed. The original method for complex processing of wood greenery, which allows increase the yield of extractable substances two to three times in comparison with known method was developed. For the first time a positive influence of low molecular components of Abies wood greenery on the productivity of farm animals was shown. After series of experiments the growth-stimulating and fungicidal actions preparations on the basis of Abies and Picea wood greenery was proposed. The highly efficient method of purification of sulphate turpentine, isolation of polyprenols from sulfate soap was developed. For the selective oxidation of S-, O- and N-containing compounds chlorine dioxide was proposed and methods for its use was developed. The new methods of asymmetric synthesis for unique chiral molecules with high physiological activity was worked out. Pharmacological substances on of terpenophenols basis was designed. These substances has a complex influence on haemorheology, vessel-thrombocytic haemostasis and possess an antioxidant activity, neuroprotective, retinoprotective activity, as well as affecting brain blood flow. To create new derivatives of pharmacologically active plant polysaccharides and polymeric systems for the transport of low molecular weight pharmacophores the polycation and modification of linear polyanionic polysaccharides was received.
